Our Year 11 Further Mathematicians attended a public lecture at the University of Birmingham on Wednesday evening, where they were given a talk on "The Maths of Making Machines See" from Dr Jeremy Budd, a Professor at the University.

The pupils were shown various methods of image analysis by computer technology, along with the underlying mathematical structures used in this field of study. This was an opportunity for a small glimpse into the world of Mathematics outside of school, while learning about a topic that is likely to become crucial to the world at large as the use of Artificial Intelligence expands into everyday life.
