Getting to know the DSLR camera
- The first year of GCSE is treated as a foundation year.
- The course is made up of a series of teacher led workshops covering a range of skills needed for GCSE.
- Students are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for the Spring term where they will be introduced to the various genres used within the world of Photography e.g. portraiture.

‘Landscape & Cityscape’ and ‘Documentary Photography’
- The Spring term of Year 9, covers three genres of Photography: ‘Landscape & Cityscape’, Portraiture and ‘Documentary Photography’.
- Similarly, to previous terms, the pupils will carry out a teacher led workshop every week to demonstrate techniques, equipment and photographers that link to the set genres.
- Students will log their experimentations in a digital/paper sketchbook to demonstrate their understanding of what has been covered.

Independent Creative Project
- The Summer term of Year 9 involves introducing the Year 9’s to their first independent creative project.
- Students will be provided with three project themes that they may choose from: ‘Water’, ‘The Journey’ and ‘Patterns’.
- The students will carry out a teacher led workshop every two weeks to demonstrate techniques, equipment and photographers that link to the set genres.
- Students will log their experimentations in a digital/paper sketchbook to demonstrate their understanding of what has been covered.

Subject Overview:
Students in Year 9 have 3 Photography lessons each week.
In Year 9, students have 1 piece of homework set every week.
Assessments:
Students sit a written mock exam in the Autumn Term.
In the Summer Term, students sit a 2 hour practical mock exam.
