KS4 Curriculum
The options and combinations of GCSE and BTEC are wide, catering equally for the highly academic, traditional subjects such as English, Mathematics, the Sciences, French, History, Geography, RE, Drama, Economics, Art, to the more practical, vocational, and technical options such as Business Studies, Photography, Economics, Performing Arts, Creative Media, Sport, Personal/Social Development, Computer Science and ICT.
All students will study the core subjects of Maths, English and Science. Most will do the GCSEs in these subjects, but we also offer Functional Skills qualifications for those who would benefit from this pathway.
Most of our students will take 8 or 9 GCSEs, however some will benefit from choosing a combination of GCSEs and BTEC options, or all BTEC options.
Our BTEC and Functional Skills courses offer students the opportunity to attain a GSCE equivalent qualification.
As well as core PE lessons, students will continue to access their Personal, Social and Health Education (including Sex and Relationships Education) in timetabled lessons, through the tutor time programme and in assemblies, workshops and through visiting experts.
Wednesday afternoon is given over to co-curricular activities; we offer a broad variety of on and off site activities; there really is something that will appeal to everyone!
In Year 11 all students are offered additional classes at the end of the school day; these, combined with individual Academic Mentoring, enable students to take charge of their learning, seek help when they need it, clarify their understanding, review work in progress and manage any examination anxieties they may have.
