Times of the School Day
A St George’s Sixth Form the School day begins at 8.25am, with students being able to access the Sixth Form area from 8.15am–8.30am each morning. This area includes a common room with refreshment making facilities and study areas that are equipped with computers, laptops and iPads to allow individuals extra opportunity for study or for meeting with their teachers and peers in a comfortable environment. The Sixth Form area also houses a dedicated Sixth Form toilet and locker area.
Registration followed by either Form Time or an assembly, provides an ideal opportunity for students to meet with their Form Tutor, Mentor or Head of Sixth Form.
In Sixth Form the timetable typically includes 5 taught lessons in each chosen area of study, a PSE lesson, a PE lesson and the opportunity for enrichment activities. A Sixth Form student’s timetable will therefore include approximately 15 independent study periods in which students are expected to use their time wisely and complete homework, revise, prepare for next topics or engage in wider reading.
Carefully chosen enrichment activities support preparation for adulthood and include opportunities to engage in First Aid training, Sports or Academic Coaching Awards, cooking in preparation for University, Self-Defence, volunteering and other age-appropriate next step career, employment or social skills. These are regularly delivered by visiting professionals.
Sixth Formers have the privilege of leaving the school site at lunchtime to buy lunch with peers in the local area.
The school day usually ends for Sixth Form students at 3.30pm. However, students may be expected to stay on site until 4.30pm for extra revision sessions, and for those who prefer to study independently offsite, arrangements may be made on an individual basis with the Head of Sixth Form.
